iPhone Tools ("we", "our", or "us") operates the TranslateIt mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use TranslateIt.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account (optional), we collect:
- Email address (for authentication)
- Display name (optional)
You can use the App as a guest without creating an account. The 7-day free trial does not require sign-in.
Translation Content
When you use the translation features in cloud mode, we process:
- Audio recordings sent for speech recognition and translation
- Photos sent for OCR (text extraction) and translation
- Typed or pasted text sent for translation
This content is transmitted securely to our servers, processed, and is not retained beyond the duration of your request.
Offline Mode
When you use the App in offline (local) mode, all audio recognition and translation happens entirely on your device using Apple's frameworks. Your recordings, photos, and text never leave your iPhone or iPad.
History (Signed-In Users Only)
If you are signed in, we store:
- Translation history (source text, translation, languages, timestamps)
- Audio session metadata (source text, translation, language, timestamp, optionally a copy of the audio for replay)
Guest users do not have history saved. History is fully deletable by you at any time.
Subscription & Trial Tracking
To manage your 7-day trial and subscription state, we record:
- A device identifier (anonymous, generated locally) for trial tracking
- Subscription and transaction records (provided by Apple's StoreKit)
How We Use Your Information
- Translation: Audio, photos, and text are processed by our AI servers to generate translations
- History: Past sessions are stored in your account so you can review or replay them
- Account Management: Authentication, trial tracking, and subscription management
- Service Improvement: Aggregated, anonymized usage patterns help us improve translation quality and app performance
Permissions We Request
- Microphone: To record voice for transcription and translation
- Camera: To capture photos of menus, signs, and documents for OCR translation
- Photo Library: To import existing photos for OCR translation
- Speech Recognition: To transcribe recorded audio on-device when Offline mode is on
Each permission is only used for its stated purpose and can be revoked at any time in your device Settings.
Third-Party Services
Apple Frameworks (Offline Mode)
Offline mode uses Apple's on-device Translation and Speech frameworks. Audio, photos, and text processed in offline mode are handled entirely by Apple's frameworks on your device and are not transmitted to TranslateIt's servers or any third party.
Authentication Services (Optional)
- Sign in with Apple: Apple handles authentication. We receive only what Apple provides (email, name if you choose to share).
- Sign in with Google: Google handles authentication. We receive only what Google provides (email, name).
Apple Services
- StoreKit: Used for in-app subscription purchases. All payment processing is handled by Apple; we do not see or store payment details.
Third-party services operate under their own privacy policies and terms of service.
Subscription and Payment Information
All subscription purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. We do not have access to your payment information. Apple may collect information related to your purchases in accordance with their own privacy policy.
Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information:
- All data transmitted between the App and our servers uses HTTPS/TLS encryption
- Authentication tokens are stored securely in your device's Keychain
- Server infrastructure follows industry-standard security practices
Data Retention
Translation history is retained for as long as your account is active. Audio recordings, photos, and text submitted in cloud mode are not stored on our servers beyond processing your request. If you delete your account, all associated history and data is permanently removed within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided information to us, please contact us at the email below.
Your Rights and Choices
You have control over your data:
- Access: View your translation history within the App
- Delete History: Delete individual history items at any time
- Delete Account: Completely remove your account and associated data via the Profile tab
- Revoke Permissions: Disable mic, camera, or speech recognition in your device Settings
- Guest Mode: Use the App without an account — no history is stored
- Offline Mode: Run everything on-device so no content leaves your phone

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
